Avery Burke is here!

After 40 weeks and 2 days of carrying her inside me, our little angel has arrived! Here's the story! I wrote this last Friday (11/23) so I am a little late in posting it!

I had my 40 week appt on Tuesday at 2 and the Dr told me I was "not quite 2cm" which was his nice way of saying that for the 3rd week in a row I had made no change and that he would probably see me next week. I was so disappointed and frustrated that I just cried when we got back in the car. Since Jim had the day off we left there and grabbed a late lunch/early dinner at Tjuana Flats and just talked and he calmed me down and reminded me that there WAS an end in sight, it just wasn't that day. We came home and rested a little bit and then decided to tackle putting the lights on the Christmas tree and watched TV, then finally went to bed around 11. I woke up at 2 and the TV was still on so I grabbed the remote, turned it off and closed my eyes and then felt a little squish. Thinking it was some sort of discharge or heavier spotting (I started spotting after my internal earlier that day) I jumped up out of bed and ran to the bathroom. I NEVER would have guessed it was my membranes rupturing!!! When I sat on the toilet it was a little heavier than a trickle, but definitely not me peeing! I went and kissed Jim on the cheek and woke him up and calmly let him know that he needed to get up....the race was ON! After a call to the nurse to let them know I was coming in, we headed to the hospital and arrived at 3am. They didn't even triage me after doing the blue tape test to see if it was amniotic fluid came back VERY positive. I got all checked in at 3:30 and just kinda hung out in bed for awhile and took in what was happening. The Nurse checked me at 4:30 and I had still made no change and hadn't had any contractions at all. The Dr came in around 5 (coincidentally the SAME dr was on call that I had seen about 12 hours earlier who told me "see you next week"!). He said since there was nothing happening still that they would hook me up to the pitocin and get me gradually going on that. It really wasn't bad at all. I have always heard horror stories about how bad pit contrax are but they really weren't bad. I decided to beat the pain and got my epidural before they got too bad, so I was hooked up to that around 11. By that time I was at 3-4cm. At around 3:30 they came back in and checked me and I was at 9cm and then about 45 minutes later they checked again and I was at 10 and ready to go. Now the race was REALLY on! I was in a competition with the girl down the hall who had been pushing for about an hour at that point. At 4:42 the nurse got all set up and we did some practice pushes and about 30 minutes later she was crowning and they had to run out and grab the Dr from the other girl's room who was STILL pushing. Avery Burke was welcomed into the world at 5:25 after a little more than 40 minutes of pushing! She was determined to come out (once she realized she was out numbered) and was actually pushing herself out without any contractions! She is absolutely beautiful (of course I am a *little* biased) and has the BIGGEST feet! lol That was the first comment the Dr made about her when she came out, "She's got some feet on her!"

It was THE most amazing experience of my entire life! I kept telling Jim and my sister that something was wrong, it was supposed to be harder than that! So far I have been blessed with a recovery that was just as easy as my pregnancy and a beautiful and healthy baby girl!

We were "evicted" Friday morning around 10, which was really nice that we didn't have to stay the full 48 hours. It was so nice to get back in my own bed where my feet didn't hang off the end!

Thing have been going really well we are truly lucky to have such an easy baby so far! I hope it continues!
